Aug. 10 is Community Garden Day, “a way to learn directly from community gardeners about their community spaces and get to know your community a little better in the process,” according to www.gardeningmatters.org. Community gardens in the Twin Cities metro will host free neighborhood celebrations for the public in their gardens. In the Northeast area here is what’s planned for Saturday, Aug. 10:

Garden focus: Beautification (flowers, perennials), food production. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. take an evening stroll through the garden sampling garden produce and seeing the garden at its zenith.

From 1:30 to 3 p.m., “Stop by our garden mingle with some gardeners and enjoy acoustic music, face painting and an art project for kids led by Girl Scout Troop 13533. Please park on Columbia Parkway, and walk down the alley between Van Buren and Architect to join us.”

Events from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. “Lost Boys Acre is a small urban farm practicing micro-raised bed gardening and micro-orcharding. We will be offering tours throughout the day and providing educational opportunities in chicken keeping; hatching and raising poultry, sq. foot/micro gardening; micro orchards; deep-litter composting methods. There will also be berries to pick and eat.”
