This beautifully hand-drawn (English language) animated feature from France’s animation studio, Folimage, is a deservedly popular thriller for kids–currently being nominated for major animated feature awards.
A young girl, Zoe, discovers her handsome black cat is leading a double life. After Zoe goes to sleep, the cat runs off to accompany a slinky but kindly cat burglar, whose nightly prowls take them on delightfully daring leaps from windows to rooftops with the gorgeous, shadowy Parisian skyline as their backdrop. One night, Zoe follows her cat to meet the burglar-and they become friends. Meanwhile, Zoe’s mother, a police detective, is chasing major criminals including the notorious gangster, Victor Costa, who shot Zoe’s father. During a heist, Costa’s thugs run across the cat burglar, and Zoe gets caught in the middle of a noir-ish climax with an acrobatic finale atop the gothic Notre Dame.
“A Cat in Paris is a warm and richly humorous love letter to classic noir films and the stylized wit of the Pink Panther cartoons.” -New York Times
