Canoeing the Mississippi-8

Just downriver past the Short Line railroad bridge, near the eastern bank, can be seen remnants of the Meeker Island Lock and Dam. Built in 1907 and demolished in 1912, it was the first lock and dam on the Mississippi. Related ruins — including the foundation of the lockmaster’s house — exist nearby along the shore and bluff.
