Bottineau transit corridor review process underway


Proposals for expanding the transit network around the Twin Cities include the creation of corridors that might include new light rail lines or an option called bus rapid transit, which mimics the look and feel of a rail line at a lower cost. But before anything can be built, funding must be identified, political support solidified, and community members engaged.

A commission looking at transit along interstate 94 between St. Paul and growing population centers in western Wisconsin recently decided to eliminate light rail as an option for what is called “The Gateway Corridor”.

A similar review process is also underway to assess a transit corridor that would stretch northward from downtown Minneapolis. KFAI’s Edwin Allen recently attended some public meetings to discuss the plans, and he filed this report. [Audio below]
