On Sunday, July 29th, in north Minneapolis, the 2600 block of Colfax Avenue will be blocked off for a bittersweet birthday party. The organization Mad Dads is sponsoring an observance of what would have been the 4th birthday of Terrell Mayes. The event starts at 3pm.
Terrell was killed late last year when a bullet fired outside went through the wall of his house and struck him as he was taking cover with his siblings. This tragic and senseless death of an innocent 3 year old shocked Minnesotans and led to many earnest declarations that we have to work to make things better for our children.
Seven months later, the search continues for the people or person responsible for Terrell’s shooting. A reward set at more than ten thousand dollars remains unclaimed.
If you have information about Terrell’s killing, call Crime Stoppers at 651 452 7463. If you’d like to know more about Mad Dads, visit Minneapolis mad dads dot org.
Terrell Mayes’ mother, Marsha Mayes, and VJ Smith, national president of Mad Dads, talked with Bob Hines and Michelle Alimoradi on the KFAI Weekly News. [Audio below]
