Best of summer: Art Fair and Pizza Luce Block Party

Print

The second most attended event in Minnesota descends on Uptown August 7 to 9. The Uptown Art Fair is back with some old favorites and some new artists as well. It’s hard not to miss the event as the swarms of people engulf the community. But what you don’t want to miss is the accompanying events to the fair. The fair has a lot of art but if you’re looking for something different here are some options.

Inside Calhoun Square is Tomorrow’s Stars Seen Today, an event for student artists to learn the whole process of making, marketing and selling art to the public. This is your chance to see artists in the making.

Outside at Old Chicago’s is the Performance Stage. There you’ll expect to see a range of performance mediums from singing to dancing and maybe even some cheer leading.

And new this year is the Blue Moon Community Mural, an opportunity for people to participate in the creating of a community mural for future display.

Blockasaurus Block Party

The atmospheric qualities of a hot August night when the sun is down and the humidity drops can’t be recreated any other time of year. This is the setting for the annual Pizza Luce Block Party on August 8.

2009 welcomes another year of local musical talent. This is a great venue to engage your senses and get up front and personal with some of the local greats in live music. Again this year offers a variety of styles for your tastes: Jack Brass Band, Spacewolf, The Alrights, The Framed, The Radio Killers, F*ck Knights, Hobo Nephews Of Uncle Frank, Me And My Arrow, MC/V1, Kid Dakota and Maria Isa.
