Local theater has the Ivey Awards, dance has the SAGE Awards…and now, the fine arts have their own awards. The Twin Cities Fine Arts Organization, “a nonprofit membership-based organization that galleries, museums and art centers may join,” has announced finalists for what are slated to be the first annual Best of Twin Cities Fine Arts Organization Awards. Not the catchiest name, but give ’em time.
Where did the nominations come from? Here’s the fine print: “Nominations were submitted by Twin Cities Fine Arts Organization members and reflect member organization activities January 1st through September 30th, 2011. Finalists were selected from the nominations to reflect popularity of nomination, diversity of representation across membership and activities with verifiable details.”
I semi-ironically love the categories, which include not just “Most Inspiring” and “Most Memorable” but also “Outstanding Art Gift Shop” (burned, Walker Art Center!) and—wait for it—”Outstanding Reception.” Got opinions? Share ’em via the online ballot, which will be open until noon on October 14.
