In previous years, more than 20,000 people have filled the churchyard, with more than 1,600 volunteers. Proceeds from ticket and food sales go toward the continued restoration of the church, which has served as a refuge for the poor and center for the arts since 1914. People of all faiths are encouraged to attend the event, a self-proclaimed “annual party of a higher order.”
