Art cars paraded around Lake Harriet on July 25 Jan Elftmann, creator of the cork truck and past Art Car participant, cxplains: “This much-loved annual parade is organized by a grassroots affiliation of artists who creatively alter cars and other wheeled vehicles for display and everyday use. ArtCars—often humorous, sometimes surprising and always inventive—interest and inspire imagination in people of all ages and backgrounds. The ArtCar Parade brings together people from the neighborhood, the Metro area and the state to create, participate in and enjoy one-of-a-kind mobile creations.”
The 15th Annual Minneapolis Art Car Parade was held on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Lake Harriet. The event, sponsored by Bryant Lake Bowl and Intermedia Arts featured the ArtCar Cruise, ArtBikes on the bike path and decorated canoes on the lake. The much loved and anticipated community event has experienced the crunch of the economy with last year’s outreach to raise funds to save the parade. Despite last year’s concern, this year’s parade opened up with a new route and location and a concluded with a live musical performance held at the Lake Harriet Band Shell.
