After the storm, How are the Children
The BEAM is a North Minneapolis newsletter funded by NorthWay Community Trust. The BEAM is proud to introduce The North Way, Youth Production Team. Funded by NorthWay Community Trust and under the tutelage of Ed Irwin, this group of student journalists are covering the Northside from a welcome perspective – high school journalists. Their skills as writers, photographers, videographers and editors will be focused on North Minneapolis issues from a youth perspective. Here is the first of a series of stories from The North Way.
On May 22nd, 2011 a tornado hit North Minneapolis causing serious damage. Homes, parks and churches were destroyed, but something else was damaged in the crossfire, the children. The tornado has had a huge effect on North Minneapolis youth, especially their minds. The question is “How are the children, after the tornado?”
In this compelling video the reporters from The North Way Youth Production Team provide a look into the affect the tornado had on the children of North Minneapolis. Click on the image above to view the video. By North Way Production Crew Mercedes Thomas, Jacob Dickson and Briaunna Minor.
