The City of Minneapolis Department of Planning and Community Development and LiveMSP have teamed up to show off two areas of Minneapolis that they believe are ready for a comeback. “Buying into the City Home Tours” will feature homes on the market in both South and Northeast Minneapolis and organizers hope that they can convince prospective home buyers on the advantages of living in these affordable neighborhoods.
Mary Kay Bailey, program director of LiveMSP said she originally thought she’d do only neighborhoods along the spine of Lake Street, but the tour expanded to include other areas when she realized the extent of interest among home buyers.
The first home tour, set for Sunday, June 6, will begin at the Midtown Global Market on Lake Street at 11:00 a.m., and will include the South Minneapolis neighborhoods of Phillips West, Midtown Phillips, East Phillips, Corcoran, Powderhorn Park, Central and Bancroft.
The second tour, scheduled for the following Sunday, June 13, in NE Minneapolis will begin at Rogue Buddha Gallery at 357 13th Avenue NE, and will include every neighborhood except for St. Anthony and Marcy Holmes.
Soon-to-be home buyers can talk to neighborhood representatives, learn about homebuyer programs, enjoy refreshments and pick up guides to the open houses. Participating homes will be open from noon until 3:00 p.m.
“In the South Minneapolis tour, we’re going to have about 30 houses in a variety of prices, from $100,000 to $289,00 for a duplex,” said Bailey. “The city was thinking that it would be great to do this in south central Minneapolis as well as Northeast. These neighborhoods aren’t as impacted as the north part of the city with foreclosures. We want to show people the great prices and amazing housing available.”
