Central Corridor Line faces stiff opposition in St. Paul

Government and city supporters of the proposed Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Line linking the St. Paul and Minneapolis downtowns are optimistic that the new mode of transportation will bring economic growth to University Avenue, the thoroughfare that will support the new transit line. MORE »

Rash of street robberies in St. Paul

St. Paul police report a rash of armed robberies in the western district in the past two months. The robberies have some common elements: they take place at gunpoint, on the street, and after dark. Suspects are described as two or three young black men, one usually wearing a hoodie. Victims are usually young (21 and up). They have included three single male pedestrians, four male/female couples, and two groups of three. MORE »

As I child, I kept everything. Every toy, every birthday card, every outgrown t-shirt, every brochure from every tourist attraction my family ever visited. Winning Web site: TC Daily Planet

We are happy to report — make that very happy to report — that the Twin Cities Daily Planet won the Page One award for Best Web Site (Independent) from the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists chapter at an awards ceremony held at St. Paul’s Town and Country Club on June 12. The Daily Planet also won honors for a single news story (Preserving the Great Lakes by Anna Pratt) and for our New Minnesotans Speak blog. MinnPost and the Minnesota Monitor (now the Minnesota Independent) were also honored for their Web sites and stories. The Monitor won first place story for Annarama! Anna Nicole Smith and the Experience Newspaper by Paul Schmelzer and best newsroom blog for EricBlackInk. MORE »
