I see quite a few plays, but never have I heard someone laughing so hard that she actually cried out for help. Come enjoy the wide variety of space themed music including movie themes from Star Trek, and Star Wars, as well as some classics including Mars, and Jupiter, and many more. The concert will also feature special guests Lori Dokken, as well as the Calliope Women's Chorus.

Doors open at 6:30 PM, concert starts at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students/seniors. Food and beverages will be available for purchase

You are invited to the World Usability Day 2009: Designing for a Sustainable World event “Traject: Behavior, Design, and Innovation in Sustainability” to be held on November 12, 2009, from 5-9 pm at HGA Architects and Engineers in Minneapolis (701 Washington Ave N.).

This is a "come one, come all, come when you can" event and we'd like to engage as many professionals in the field of sustainability and design as we can.

We're thrilled with the speaker mix (see the link below). There will be several speakers including an artist that practices sustainable art.

The cost is $10 for UPA members or students and $20 for non-members and parking is free. This will be a catered event with food and drink, so please RSVP as soon as you can so we get the proper head count.

Dirty Projectors at the Cedar

The Brooklyn-based experimental rock group Dirty Projectors is the brainchild of frontman and chief songwriter Dave Longstreth, who released his own first album, The Graceful Fallen Mango, in 2001, before formally creating the band that launched his career. The group has pushed its sound with each new release, creating concept albums ranging from an opera about Don Henley to a re-imagining of Black Flag songs written from memory. With each new album, Longstreth's style and cast of musicians has changed. Longstreth and company released Bitte Orca in June, earning rave reviews from critics and fans. The new album continues the band's trademark experimentation, mixing traditional string arrangements with exploding drums, spidery guitars and boisterous keyboards. The band's evolving songwriting has helped make BItte Orca its best work to date. (NPR World Cafe).

tUnE-yArDs is the singular musical project of New England native Merrill Garbus. Possessing an expansive sound that marries a coarse folk ingenuity with the bold pop sensibility of an R&B siren, BiRd-BrAiNs was assembled with a staunch DIY aesthetic. Recording herself using a digital voice recorder and assembled using shareware mixing software, she was described by Stereogum as "a self-contained Sublime Frequencies compilation, jumping between blues, African tunes, shiny reggae-esque sprawls, and lo-fi folk", infusing the worldly sonic palette of M.I.A. or post-punk pioneers The Raincoats.

Herb Alpert has sold more than 72 million albums worldwide as a musician and bandleader of the groundbreaking Tijuana Brass. He has won seven Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year for "A Taste of Honey," and had three of his recordings-the early TJB hit "Whipped Cream," 1966's "What Now My Love," and his 1979 solo hit "Rise""-honored with inclusion in the Grammy Awards Archive Collection.

In 1962, Alpert and Jerry Moss founded A&M Records, which became one of the world's leading independently owned record labels and home to such renowned artists as The Police, The Carpenters, Carole King and Janet Jackson among others. During this time Herb produced the likes of Stan Getz, The Baja Marimba Band, Gato Barbieri, Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66', and his wife of more than thirty years, Lani Hall. Lani's own Grammy-award winning career as a songstress stretches from 1960s where she amassed hits as lead singer with Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66, leading into a string of solo albums in English, Portuguese and Spanish that began with 1972's "Sun Down Lady."
