Editor's note: Although Minnesota politicians and many businesses and out-of-work miners on the Iron Range support Polymet's sulfide mining proposal, environmentalists strongly oppose it. The 714-page Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) has been issued and the MN Department of Natural Resources and the Army Corps of Engineers are in the process of considering thousands of comments submitted during the now-closed comment period, and moving toward a final, joint EIS. Potentially risky mining method debated at legislative hearing

At Friday afternoon’s legislative hearing held to address the possibility of future sulfide mining in Minnesota, there was standing room only. Concerned citizens from all over the state attended to hear testimony about this method to extract ores such as copper and nickel.MORE »
