St. Paul

Thomas-Dale—frequently referred to as Frogtown—is Saint Paul’s most diverse neighborhood. This diversity is reflected not only in our residents who come from every corner of the globe, but in the wonderful shops, restaurants, and services that you will also find here. University Avenue is the major commercial center in the neighborhood, home to about 100 Asian-owned businesses and many others—and it is served by high-frequency and express buses and the forthcoming Central Corridor LRT line. Our modestly-priced homes, strong sense of community, active and engaged residents, and proximity to the State Capital, downtown, and I-94 make Thomas-Dale a great place to call home.

THEATER | Theatre Pro Rata's "Spanish Tragedy" gracefully navigates a clunky script

Theatre Pro Rata's current production of Thomas Kyd's The Spanish Tragedy is the kind of big, sloppy, wacked-out mess of a play that you can't help being seduced by. The "sloppy" and "mess" parts aren't Pro Rata's doing, they come courtesy of Mr. Kyd. Pro Rata, as always, fiercely embraces their playwright of choice (this time one of Shakespeare's contemporaries). As a result, their finely tuned work follows Kyd's play straight over the top, so far over the top that you're so high above the top you can't see it down there anymore. It's a giddy, blood-soaked amusement park of a story that careens wildly from dark humor to romance to one outrageous killing after the next.MORE »

Dead Sea Scrolls at the Science Museum: Ancient fragments with well-hidden secrets

What, exactly, are the Dead Sea Scrolls? I posed the question to a few of my friends.

"They are all kinds of old and depict battles and such. Are they a tapestry? Wait, I'm totally thinking of something else. Way to make me feel dumb. What a crappy non-Jewish Jew I am. Sigh."

"Aren't they a collection of ancient documents having to do with the Bible? I think they are some of the only transcripts of the original Bible documentation."MORE »

"I've heard of them, but I can't recall what they are."
