Hollywood Legend Angela Bassett to speak at Women’s Leadership Forum on May 15

Minneapolis (March 31, 2008) – Angela Bassett, legendary actor and recent recipient of a Star on the Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, is scheduled to speak at the MultiCultural Development Center’s Women’s Leadership Forum.

Perhaps best known for her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It, Bassett has also starred is such movies as How Stella Got Her Groove Back, The Score, Music of the Heart and Malcolm X. Bassett’s latest movie included a role in Meet the Browns, released earlier this month. She also starred opposite Laurence Fishburne in the critically-acclaimed Akeelah and the Bee.

Hosted by 5 Eyewitness News Anchor Vineeta Sawkar, the annual Women’s Leadership Forum will be held on May 15, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Best Buy Corporate Headquarters in Richfield, Minnesota. The event brings together people from across the region as they network, engage and learn about Women’s issues. “It is an excellent opportunity for Women to come together to support and empower one another,” stated Charissa Blue, HECUA Graduate Fellowship Coordinator.

“This promises to be the biggest Women’s Leadership Forum in MCDC history,” said Dr. Ghafar Lakanwal, Executive Director. “Angela Bassett is an inspiration to Women who desire to live a spiritually-centered, positive lifestyle.”
