House bill paves way for handout of I-35W bridge steel

The Department of Transportation would be directed to distribute the surplus steel remains of the collapsed Interstate 35W bridge to interested survivors, research and historic preservation groups, under a bill the House passed 129-0 on Monday.

Minimum wage hike clears House, heads to Senate

Minnesota’s $6.15 hourly minimum wage is one of the lowest in the country and among only four states that allow employers to pay below the federal level of $7.25, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. But that could change after the House voted to increase the minimum wage for some to $7 this summer and as high as $9.50 for others by 2015.

Farm laborers deserve the same rights as other workers in our state's economy

I spent some time yesterday watching the Minnesota Ways & Means committee debate the proposed minimum wage changes. While there are many things about the debate that caused a spike in my blood pressure, I am really concerned about those who think farm workers do not deserve the same rights as other workers in our state’s economy.
