Truckers select route for rolling RNC protest

Updated: On September 2, hundreds of semi-trucks are still planning on doing a rolling protest of the Republican National Convention, as MnIndy reported last month. According to driver and event organizer, Michael “JB” Schaffner, the protest has hit a bump in the road: The event’s protest permit application was lost in transit en route to St. Paul. But Schaffner says he’s working with Sgt. Jane Jane Laurence of the St. Paul Police Department to get the issue quickly resolved. “I don’t think it’s going to be a problem,” he said. “We’re one of the four cooperating groups. I think they see we’re peaceful people and think, ‘They’re going to set a tone for everyone else.’”

The anarchists are coming: Media scare tactics unfounded, anti-RNC groups say

With the Twin Cities set to host massive protests, an influx of media and thousands of Republicans and supporters, local corporate media are looking to fuel fears that things could get out of control. One activist group being targeted — they say, unfairly — is anarchists. They state that their plans do not include violence and that both their message and tactics are willfully misunderstood. Getting to the Great Minnesota Get-Together

What is the difference between the RNC and the Minnesota State Fair? For starters, the Great Minnesota Get-Together is open to everyone, no security passes required. At the State Fair, the winners are still being picked, offering suspense as judges decide on the best of everything from llamas to pickles. Food choices range from A to Z, alligator to zeppoles.
