THEATER REVIEW | Yellow Tree Theatre's "Stay Tuned" is stuck between stations

Yellow Tree Theatre is presenting the world premiere of Stay Tuned, a new musical concerning an eclectic radio show reminiscent of A Prairie Home Companion.  The musical was created by Yellow Tree artists Blake Thomas, Mary Fox, and Andy Frye, who also play three of the major roles. The music performances alone make the show worth attending. However, the story and motivations of the characters clearly need some work to make this musical a great show.

Pangea World Theater and Teatro Del Pueblo’s cerebral and eloquent depiction of Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca’s life and work should have you running and barreling through the winter sludge to get to the doors of the Ritz Theater. Lorca in a Green Dress, written by Nilo Cruz and directed by Alberto Justiniano, is a beautiful homage to the Spanish poet and playwright.

It’s a hands-off kind of support. But in Northeast Minneapolis, three corporations have been participating in a remarkable tutoring partnership with Northeast Middle School (NEMS).

REVIEW | Kristen Schaal and Rufus Wainwright deliver an off-the-cuff Wits

It seems the whole of the Twin Cities was present Friday, April 12 for the hip arts roundup that is Minnesota Public Radio’s Wits. Once again, the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul hosted a sold out show comprised of laughs, tunes and a few laughy tunes. As the second production of Wits’ 2013 spring season, legendary “popera” pianist Rufus Wainwright and comedienne Kristen Schaal (most well known for her characters in Flight of the Conchords and 30 Rock) stumbled through the mostly hilarious MPR variety show.

HERC incinerator and the Minneapolis environment: What can one person do?

I now have a little paper bag in my kitchen, filled with banana peels and coffee grounds, with a few apple cores thrown in. There are also some chicken bones and egg shells, but as I write this, I look up “should you put meat in your compost?” on Google and I realize that you’re not supposed to compost meat, so I guess I’m going to have to start over.
