One of the great treats of travel is to find someone operating a cafe far from the eyes of big city foodies, just for the love of seeing regulars and exchanging jokes.  My wife and I stopped at a place in Moorhead called Fran’s Diner many years ago.  It became a hightlight of a trip west we took.  We talked to everyone about it when we returned to the Twin Cities.  Given the choice between homely food and nouvelle cuisine, I’d take the former every time.  Also had a meal at the Duxbury General Store one time on a trip north.  What fun the whole thing was.
