Biography

About me

Since 2004, Sheldon Mains has run his own consulting practice.  He helps nonprofit organizations improve service to their communities. This may be planning new technology, evaluating current technology, integrating technology into the day-to-day operations of the organization or getting the organization to think in totally new ways.

In his spare time he tends to be a shameless agitator and works at his full time hobby of owning a 90 year old home. He has been involved in a variety of community organizations that provide public access to communications technology. He works to insure a noisy political system and works to promote freedom of speech.

Continuing his interest in public access to information, in 2005 Sheldon was elected to the Minneapolis Public Library Board of Trustees (yes, Minneapolis had a separately elected board that ran the library system--part of a very strange system of government.)  The board disbanded in 2007 when it voted to merge the Minneapolis library system with the Hennepin County library system).   He was also the Board’s representative to the Minneapolis Board of Estimate and Taxation and the Minneapolis Planning Commission.

He has an out of date electrical engineering degree from the University of Minnesota and a Masters degree from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs specializing in shameless agitation and environmental, technology and energy policy.
