About me

Rachel Reiva is 21 years old. She loves theatre and has participated in the Fringe Festival for about 6 years. She has been the teen blogger in 2007, 2009-2011. In 2008 she wrote, produced, and directed a show that premiered at the Fringe Festival call "Love and Video Games". She is not currently in a Fringe show this year but is happy to blog for the  Fringe again.

THEATER REVIEW | History Theatre's "Capital Crimes" don't quite get off scot-free

Being a big history buff of the gangster era in St. Paul, I always thought that the stories of the Barker-Karpis gang warranted their own play. But the History Theatre did better: it made not only a play based on them, it produced a play about the whole gang. The current production of Capital Crimes: The St. Paul Gangster Musical is a revival of the theatre’s 2000 production of The Gangster Musical, which was written by David Hawley with music and lyrics by Drew Jansen. In this latest version of the musical, the show has been tweaked and songs have been added. Noah Bremer directs this new version with interesting, but sometimes mixed results.

Fringe Festival Reviews: Balls Out, Disney Dethroned, Red Hamlet

Well it’s the end of Fringe and I am wrapping up my shows. So I am posting three today and three tomorrow. This year’s Fringe was great, there was a lot of wonderful good shows.  So, kudos to everyone that made this festival a success.

Fringe Festival Reviews: Status Update, Underneath the Lintel, The Beasts, The Day the Nineties Died

A very well informed play. This show really took the issue of social media and privacy and put it in the spot light. Cyber bullying is an issue that is rarely talked about, and I’m glad to see that this issue is finally being brought to discussion.

Fringe Festival day 3 and 4

  1. A Fool’s Errand: by Jaded Optimists Productions

This show had its moments, but it was very unevenly paced. That doesn’t mean that the performers were bad. It just seemed that the energy was low, so it felt like there wasn’t a lot of energy being shown to the audience.

Yesterday was a great start of the Fringe. I unfortunately was only able to see two shows because Shijin was a very last minute cancelation from the Fringe. But I will see more today.
