I am a single parent of two adult boys, which is my favorite identity. My sons, who are both in their twenties, are wonderful,ethical young men. I'm also an academic (associate professor, macalester college, media and cultural studies), and a writer. Most recently, I have been writing about photographic representations of black bodies in popular culture (e.g., check out my essay in the international Journal of Communication: Barack Obama's Body and the Liberal Body Politic). This semester, I'm teaching one of my favorite courses on the subject of black science fiction. And I love the daily planet, especially for it's commitment to community engagement.
