Biography

About me

Helen Rubenstein is a Staff Attorney with the Women’s Human Rights Program. Prior to joining the staff, she was a longtime volunteer with the Advocates for Human Rights, receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2000 for her handling of several asylum cases for Liberian refugees. As a volunteer, she also assisted the Women’s Human Rights program with various matters including supporting passage of an order for protection law by the Bulgarian parliament and acting as a reviewer for the Sex Trafficking Needs Assessment for the State of Minnesota.

Helen worked for the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office for many years, including enforcing the Minnesota Human Rights Act in cases of sexual harassment and sex, race, religious and disability discrimination. She practiced health care law for several years, providing counsel and representation to the Minnesota Department of Health, and as Associate General Counsel for UnitedHealth Group.  As a staff attorney with the Public Health Law Center she led a team that assisted Minnesota counties in adopting initiatives to reduce obesity and tobacco use.

Helen received her law degree cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction from George Washington University.
