About me

My family roots in Minneapolis go back 120 years, when my grandfather, a poor Jewish immigrant, came to America from a village in Eastern Europe. I am a graduate of Blake School, Stanford University and Harvard Law School. I am the author of 20 books, including Undefeated, a biography of Hubert Humphrey, with a foreword by Muriel Humphrey. I am a former President of the Minneapolis City Council and former President of the Minneapolis Planning Commission. I am currently a member of the Planning Commission and the Charter Commission. My charitable contributions have been concentrated primarily on the University of Minnesota Veterinary program. I am a member of the University of Minnesota President's Club. My wife and I have been in the Thoroughbred horse business for many years. Our horses usually run at Canterbury.
