Northeaster

The Northeaster has been published since 1978, and has been owned by Pro Media, Inc., Kerry and Margo Ashmore, since 1981. It initially circulated only in the Northeast section of Minneapolis, which is north of downtown and east of the Mississippi River. In 1983, the adjacent suburban cities of St. Anthony, Columbia Heights and Hilltop were added to the Northeaster's every-home, twice-monthly circulation.

Icebox Gallery celebrates 25 years

Icebox Gallery is celebrating 25 years with a pair of exhibits; one opened Friday, Feb. 16 and runs through April 20 exhibiting works by the founder Howard M. Christopherson. He’s pictured above dueling cameras with a fan. The second exhibit will start at Art-A-Whirl May 17 and run through August 31 with works from the last 25 years by various artists. Both shows in the Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson St. NE #443, Minneapolis.

Art-A-Whirl brings in 30,000 people, Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association reports

Let’s do some math: 30,000 people spending $35 apiece on a nice dinner/drinks would add up to over $1 million into the local economy. If they buy art, the total’s much higher; visual art sales/awareness are reasons for Art-A-Whirl.

Columbia Heights is ripe for developers

It seems that Columbia Heights is looking good, lately, to some local developers. City officials recently heard a preliminary redevelopment proposal that could include a public library, city hall and senior housing at 40th and Central, and another developer plans to build single family houses at the Grand Central Lofts site, 49th and Central avenues.
