Gung Hay Fat Choy! New Year celebration calendar
Chinese New Year Events
Gung Hay Fat Choy! 2007 is the Year of the Boar/Pig – Lunar Year 4705 on the Chinese calendar. The Lunar New Year is the most important holiday for Chinese and most other Asian families. It is a time of reunion and thanksgiving.
The Lunar New Year begins with the new moon of the first day of the new year, which this year falls on February 18, 2007, and ends 15 days later with the full moon on March 5, 2007.
The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival. This ancient ceremony marks the time after the winter solstice when the daylight is longer and the sunlight is warmer.
The Vietnamese New Year, Tet, is a contraction of the words “Nguyen Dan Tiet” or the “festival of the first day of the year.” Based on the lunar calendar, Tet marks the beginning of the spring season and lasts three or more days. February 18. Korea and Taiwan also celebrate the lunar new year.
