This weekend’s lineup is a bit quieter than last weekend's, but no less engaging. Play on Penn: Meat and Greet, August 8

Come on out to the second Meat & Greet, a Play on Penn event sponsored by Penn Avenue Community Works that aims to create an attractive destination for community-building and opportunity along the Penn Avenue corridor. The event offers free BBQ, live music, and an opportunity to interact and socialize with people in the community! Special guests include the Free Speech Machine, E.G. Bailey's Talking Tree Poetry, IMPACT Penn Avenue Story Series by Bully Creative, and a special showing of the film "A Place at the Table" presented by Appetite for Change and its Fresh Corners Initiative. 5th Annual Cedar Riverside Health Fair, August 8

Join Pillsbury United Communities and the Brian Coyle Community Center for the 5th annual Cedar Riverside Health Fair, offering preventive healthcare screenings, health education and fun activities for kids like a sports tournament, food and raffles! Over 30 local healthcare organizations will be on hand, including Health Partners, Mayo Clincic, MNsure, Children’s Dental Services and more.

FMLY Fest, August 8-9

Join In The Heart of The Beast Theater for a two-day festival full of local and national music, and interactive art and sound installations. Festivities also include a bazaar market place, zine library, an ambient chill-out game cave and much more! Check the Facebook page for the full schedule.

Irish Fair of Minnesota, August 8 – 10

This three-day fair, billed as the nation’s biggest free Irish Fair, features a Celtic marketplace, Gaelic sports, Irish food and drink, and local and international musical offerings, among other festivities.

Twin Cities Polish Festival, August 8 – 10

Another fun three-day cultural festival, the The Twin Cities Polish Festival, features authentic polish food and beer, a 5K run, children’s activities, a Twin Cities Polish Film Fest and much more!

Art on the Avenue, August 9

Smith Avenue will once again mark the spot for the second annual Art on the Avenue. The art crawl will feature over 20 local artists, and two stages of music from artists such as Independent Progress, Mary & the Percolators, Chandy Gessner, The Jinnies, and more. Fun activities for kids will also be offered, including a scavenger hunt organized by Capital Deals Bike Shop, plus tasty food!

The 11th Annual Pizza Lucé Block Party, August 9

The Block party fun continues with the 11th Annual Pizza Luce’ Block Party in the Warehouse District of downtown Minneapolis. The festivities will include a day of great local music, pizza by the slice, brats and local brewed pints by Summit Brewing Company. Dunk tank fun will be handled by The Minnesota Roller Girls! Woohoo!

Lowertown Guitar Festival, August 9

Guitar lovers rejoice! The McNally Smith College of Music will host the second annual Lowertown Guitar Festival, offering live outdoor music at the beautiful Mears Park in downtown Saint Paul. Organizers stress that this festival, unlike other music fests, is not genre specific, with the focus being on diverse guitar-driven music. So expect a varied and unique line up of talent. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Black Dog Coffee & Wine Bar and Summit Brewing.
