Southwest LRT riding for equity

Southwest Light Rail has the chance to be a transformative infrastructure link for North Minneapolis residents, connecting them to jobs, shopping and other recreational opportunities -- even though the broader goal was to better connect suburban riders. Folks in North Minneapolis recently held an open meeting with Met Council members to ensure the project's planning doesn't leave them out. Issues raised at the panel included fares, safety issues like street lights and video surveillance cameras, trash cans convenient to bus stops, and heated shelters. The discussion led to the creation of an advisory panel in which transit riders in Minneapolis have a seat at the table when it comes to decision making for the future of transit in Minneapolis.
