Rally Tuesday for higher minimum wage
On Tuesday, the first day of the 2014 session of the Minnesota Legislature, advocates will rally to call for immediate action to raise the state’s minimum wage to $9.50 an hour.
The “Raise the Wage” rally will start at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Capitol rotunda. Speakers will include legislators and low-wage workers. Entertainment will include Brother Ali.
The rally sponsor is a coalition of community, faith, labor, non-profit and service-based organizations. In addition to raising the state minimum wage for small business to $8.50 and large business to $9.50 by next year, the coalition wants the wage indexed to go up with inflation.
