August 23: Young workers' day at State Fair will feature training, activism, music
The Minnesota AFL-CIO invites younger workers to the Labor Pavilion at the Minnesota State Fair Friday, August 23 to take part in “Raise Up Minnesota,” planned as a day of training, activism and music.
Organized by Minnesota Young Workers, the day is targeted to young union members ages 18-35.
For $10, young workers can get into the fair, attend the trainings with a catered lunch provided, practice what they’ve learn that afternoon, and then have a chance to let loose at the Labor Pavilion with an evening of music.
The evening concert features a special showcase of young musicians from the Twin Cities as well as headliner Anne Feeney.

The training is limited to 60 people, so prompt registration is encouraged.
Trainings will be facilitated by union members and community partners.
A morning training session from 10:00-11:45 a.m. will offer two choices, “Direct Action 101” and “Arts in Actions — Creating Effective Visuals for Actions.”
An afternoon training session from 12:45-2:30 p.m. also will offer two choices, “Roles in Direct Action” and “The Power of Our Stories: Creating Effective Narrative Art for the Movement.”
From 2:30-5:00 p.m., participants will have the opportunity for direct action, to be announced. Participants must be willing to go off-site and ride public transportation to the location.
The evening concert from 6:00-8:00 p.m. will feature Anne Feeney, Kill the Autocrat, Guante & See More Perspective, Lioness, Lydia Liza of Bomba de Luz, and MN Brave New Voices poets.
The Summer of Solidarity Tour will be joining “Raise Up Minnesota” for the day. The Tour is making its way across the country to connect with local union and social justice struggles (see www.summerofsolidarity.org).
