Occupy the Hood 2nd annual march/rally for jobs, justice, housing

Augsburg College will honor the calling of one of the United States' visionary civil rights leaders on Monday, January 21, by hosting the 25th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation.

The presentation, "Searching for MLK: A provocative exploration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.," will take place at 1 p.m. in Hoversten Chapel and will include thought-provoking archival images, song, movement, and written excerpts from Dr. King.

Sunday, January 20

Martin Luther King Tribute Concert at University of Minnesota Ted Mann Concert Hall, 4-6 p.m.

"Unforgettable"  On January 20 at St. Joan of Arc, local legend Dennis Spears pays tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. by singing songs made famous in the early Civil Rights era by another royal figure: Nat "King" Cole, who became a national celebrity at a pivotal time for African-Americans in popular entertainment. The evening promises to be educational, moving, and, of course, entertaining.

St. Paul Central High School and Concordia University Annual Martin Luther King Rally and Celebration Jan. 16

9:30am-3pm. Rally begins at St. Paul's Central High School Auditorium (275 N. Lexington Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104), followed by a march at 10:35am from the school to Concordia. NHCC Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In Concert Jan. 24

North Hennepin Community College is celebrating Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in concert on Thursday, January 24th at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Theatre. The concert will feature songs of praise by the NHCC Chamber Singers, directed by Karla Miller; Sandy Hodges and Friends; and Voices of Inspiration from Macedonia Baptist Church, directed by Nerita Hughes. This event is free and open to the public, with a meet and greet and refreshments preceding the concert. Theatre seating is limited, so arriving early is recommended.
