Lake Street celebrates Mexican Independence Day in Minneapolis

Sunday, September 16 was the Mexican day of Independence and Lake Street became a  hub of celebration. The Hispanic community and neighbors in the Phillips/ Powderhorn area gathered for six hours of festivities. The activities included musical performances on two stages, vendors of Mexican souvenirs, delicious food, information booths for community members, and other fun features like the petting zoo. A parade marched from 15th Avenue South to Clinton Avenue South. at 1:00 PM. Scroll down to see slideshows of the event.

Brightly colored booths, savory aromas of grilling and echoing sounds of laughter filled the streets during the celebration. A rich sense of Mexican history, culture and the local Latino community was represented during the festivities.
