NEIGHBORHOOD NOTES | Cedar traffic detoured to Bloomington

Cedar is closed between 42nd and 46th streets.

Cedar Avenue between 42nd Avenue and 46th Avenue is being detoured west to Bloomington. According to Loren Olson of city council member Sandra Colvin Roy’s office, a sanitary sewer pipe is being replaced in the area.

The 15-inch sanitary sewer pipe is in very poor condition and taking on groundwater.

“Working in groundwater requires over excavation to ensure the new pipe is placed on a good solid surface to ensure future settling doesn't occur,” said Olson. “This, unfortunately, also means it takes more time.  The project is anticipated to take another three weeks.  Surface Water and Sewers will do whatever they can to speed up the process.”

Crews are now working 12-hour shifts six days a week to expedite this project.

Because of neighbor concerns, “road closed to through traffic” signs have been placed on the residential streets near Cedar.
