Admission Possible expands to two suburban high schools

Admission Possible has expanded this fall to two suburban high schools: Kennedy High School in Bloomington and Park Center High School in Brooklyn Park. The program is committed to making college admission and success possible for low-income students. A total of 40 juniors are taking part in both schools.

Admission Possible is a program to help students with low income to be able to enroll and be successful in college. It was launched in 2000 in Minnesota and has expanded into Nebraska and Wisconsin. In the Twin Cities area, it has served 7,600 high school and college age students. The goal is to expand to ten locations across the country and to reach 10,000 students a year by 2020.

Sara Sziuk, the Admission Possible Twin Cities executive director said: “We're thrilled at the opportunity to serve low-income students in the Osseo and Bloomington school districts”
With the addition of the two schools, Admission Possible is now serving more than 1,500 students in 19 local high schools this fall. Andrew Beaton, principal of Kennedy High School emphasizes that some of the students taking part will be the “first in their family to attend college.”

Participating students meet twice a week after school with coaches who support them in small learning groups or in one-on-one sessions. Among other services, the students are provided with free ACT/SAT test preparation and help in obtaining financial aid for college. Once graduated, students also receive support in searching for scholarships and internships.
