NEIGHBORHOOD NOTES | Open invitation for Ramadan
Doors that community members of other faiths may have assumed were closed are opened this year by Muslim neighbors whose celebration of Ramadan begins at sundown on Sunday, July 31. Expanding on an interfaith tradition sponsored by the Minnesota Council of Churches Moslems are inviting non-Moslems to the sunset breaking of the fast and prayer. Local mosques are inviting non-Moslems to observe prayer at sunset and to join in the breaking of the fast that follows.
The list of participating mosques is lengthy. The closest to Northeast residents is Masjid al Iman, 1429 2nd Street, 1 ½ blocks West of University. Masjid al Iman will join friends and neighbors in prayer and breaking of the fast on Tuesday, August 9, 7:30 p.m. Details here:
Masjid al Iman is pictured here - You’ve seen it many times!
Those who would like to have more opportunities to learn from and talk with Muslim neighbors may wish to contact the Minnesota Council of Churches or any number of local groups that are initiating and facilitating interdenominational dialogs.
