Volunteer opportunity: Be a neighborhood correspondent

July 21, 2010

Do you know what's happening in your neighborhood - or do you wish you did? We've got an opportunity for you!

The Twin Cities Daily Planet is looking for neighborhood correspondents for our 98 new Minneapolis and St. Paul neighborhood pages. If you can volunteer as little as 30 minutes a week, we'll help you get more connected to your neighborhood and your neighbors. Even if this opportunity isn't right for you, please read on. You might be able to put us in touch with the right person in your neighborhood.

Here's an example of a neighborhood page that already has a neighborhood correspondent.

All we ask is that you write up one neighborhood event a week for our calendar, or a short paragraph about a neighborhood attraction or business. If you want to do more, you can - from reporting neighborhood news to recruiting your neighbors to register as users of the Daily Planet.

If you are willing to try volunteering as a neighborhood correspondent:

We will train you: You can learn to upload calendar events, photos, or short news items in 10 minutes or less.

We will support you: We'll put your smiling face front and center on your neighborhood page, with contact information.

We will recognize you. You'll receive invitations to all Daily Planet special events, including a special event acknowledging volunteers and donors.

Interested? Contact Daily Planet editor Mary Turck at editor@tcdailyplanet.net for more information.
