"It's like being 13, but now you can drink": Edina ladies throw a slumber party for a cause
Ladies in their PJs took over the Westin Edina Galleria on Saturday for the second annual "Ultimate Pajama Party," an evening of cocktails, manicures, tarot readings and—yes—a "man auction" that raised funds for the Junior League of Minneapolis, a nonprofit organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism.
At the event, women of all ages munched on hors d'oeuvres, sipped fancy drinks, enjoyed massages, and got their hair done. Ensembles ranged from fluffy bunny slippers and flannel nightgowns to silky, frilly lingerie complete with artificial eyelashes.
Kevyn Burger, the mistress of ceremonies for the evening, said that since women spend so much energy on family during the holidays, it's nice to have a night to spend with friends. Burger, who regularly hosts woman-focused trivia nights in the Twin Cities area, led a game of trivia for the Pajama Party. "Usually trivia nights are very male-centered," she said, "with all these questions about sports and wars. I offer an alternative to that."
Many of the women at the event said they especially liked that they could have fun and raise money for charity. "It's a night for women to get out and have fun and raise some money," one woman said.
"This is just the best girlfriend slumber party you'd ever want to go to," said organizer Tammy Hauser Sarto. She said the Pajama party is just like the slumber parties that women had when they were 13, except now they can drink and shop. "Totally the focus is on you and your girlfriends," Sarto said.
Following the festivities, many of the women spent the night at the Westin, and returned the next morning for the Mother/Daughter Bathrobe Brunch.
