John Quincy: ‘A city that works for everyone’

The average resident of Ward 11, they just want stuff done," says John Quincy. "How can we grow jobs? How can we get jobs back into the city?"

Quincy is running as the AFL-CIO endorsed candidate for the Ward 11 City Council seat in south Minneapolis, an open seat due to the retirement of Scott Benson. Quincy also is DFL-endorsed.

Quincy, a marketing consultant by profession, notes, "as an MBA, I'm a constituent services expert - customer service." His campaign slogan: "A city that works for everyone."

"I thought I'd be bringing a new voice and a new perspective to the City Council," he says, offering his business background and commitment to social justice.

Quincy is a relative newcomer to Minneapolis - he moved here in 1994 - but he quickly become involved in community affairs as a PTA leader, parish leader, DFL activist and leader. He developed strong relationships with labor while chairing school board campaigns for labor-endorsed candidates Carla Bates and Tom Madden.

Quincy grew up in Central Illinois, graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, then earned his MBA from DePaul University in Chicago.

He and his wife Anne, now a Legal Aid attorney, visited friends in Minneapolis and decided to move here. "It was our parks, our schools, our city's values." The couple have lived in Ward 11 since 1994, sending their two sons to the Minneapolis Public Schools.
