The New Normal 2012: Get Connected!

New Normal 2012 builds on work begun by TCMA and the Twin Cities Daily Planet in 2011. The goal of “The New Normal: Deciding Community Priorities in a Downsized Economy” was to identify challenges facing Minnesota citizens and communities, and evaluate possible solutions. This year the focus is on action steps. Over the next six months, the Daily Planet will publish a variety of articles, interviews and issue guides related to these organizations and the issues they are working on.

August 21 -- Focus on the Environment with the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy at Cause Spirits & Soundbar

August 22 — Focus on Civic Participation with League of Women Voters at Cause Spirits & Soundbar

September 5 -- Focus on Immigration with the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota and Navigate MN at Open Arms of Minnesota

September 8 — Focus on Health Care with NAMI Minnesota at Merriam Park Library

September 18 -- Focus on Transportation with the District Councils Collaborative

October 1 — Focus on Educaton with Parents United for Public Schools

October 8 -- Focus on Work with The Arc Greater Twin Cities at the St. Louis Park Rec Center

October 10 -- Focus on Work with the Land Stewardship Project at Gandhi Mahal Restaurant Community Room

October 29 -- Focus on the Environment and Food Justice with the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy 

October 30 -- Focus on the Environment and Creative Placemaking with Envision Minnesota at Chatterbox Pub

Get Connected! is part of the Twin Cities Media Alliance's New Normal 2012 Project, an initiative funded by the Bush Foundation. The Twin Cities Media Alliance and Daily Planet are sponsoring a series of community "Get Connected!" meetings in partnership with approximately 20 Twin Cities organizations working for change on issues ranging from the environment, education and work to health care, transportation and immigrant communities.   • find out about the organization — their work, their resources, and how you can get involved
  • learn how to use new media tools — including the Daily Planet - to be a more effective activist
