Sheridan Neighborhood News and Events

Grain Belt Brewery

The Sheridan neighborhood is located in Northeast Minneapolis, and downtown is just one mile south along the trails and paths in our expanding riverside parks. The Grain Belt Area complex, adjacent to Sheridan Memorial Park on the river, is a multi-use facility that includes a public library, coffee shop, artist studios and a nationally recognized architecture firm. The heart of Sheridan neighborhood is the commercial corridor along 13th Ave. NE, which has emerged in recent years as one of the city's top arts and entertainment destinations while maintaining its very safe and cozy small town character. Sheridan is full of people who enjoy the diversity of an urban lifestyle—and going green, as 30% of households are automobile-free! (Description from livemsp.org)

Minneapolis Garden Gleaning Project puts healthy food into the hands of those who need it most

SATURDAY PICK | Biblio Bash makes a midway of Coffee House Press

A fundraiser and literary event—two things that wouldn't likely make for a carefree night. But this is Minneapolis we're talking about, and in that context the literary scene is not only relevant, it's hoppin'. When Coffee House Press promises their annual fundraiser to be "fun, not stuffy!" I'm inclined to believe them. Among the night's carnival-themed activities are book-based performances by Bedlam Theatre, a Grammar Gauntlet (which includes various word games like Bananagrams and Scrabble), music from DJ Jacquie Fuller from 89.3 The Current, book-related arts and crafts from MCBA and the Walker, a silent auction, and creative freedom with Magnetic Poetry and Spine Poetry. It's all the fun of a carnival without the carnies.

THEATER | Why I folded on "Deal! The Musical"

When asked to review Deal! The Musical, currently playing at the Ritz Theater in Northeast Minneapolis, I enthusiastically agreed. Looking at the website I found this decription: “…Added to the mix is a colorful group of friends and family who join them for their weekly poker games. Dreams and ambitions collide with small town realities as everyone deals with love and life in this spirited yet touching look at how one family holds on tight to their love for one another.”MORE »

Art: It's a serious business

To get more customers, do you bring them to you, or do you go to them? Artists gathered April 12 in the evening at Chowgirls Parlor to hear about a successful holiday experiment with a downtown Minneapolis pop-up art store.MORE »
