Prospect Park Neighborhood News and Events
Prospect Park residents enjoy its urban village feel--a small town in the big city--where it is easy to walk to: work, recreation, shopping, and community meetings & events. Winding, tree-lined streets where no two homes are alike make this neighborhood a treasure that attracts a variety of residents. Residents of Prospect Park are diverse, individualistic, community-minded, and politically active. The neighborhood is home to Luxton Park and Recreation Centers, Tower Hill Park and Water Tower, many small passive green spaces, and Pratt Elementary School; and it is adjacent to the University of Minnesota, close to both downtowns (10 minutes each by car and 20 minutes by bus), and within walking distance of dining, shopping, services, and other attractions along University Avenue. The Prospect Park neighborhood is also part of the relatively new University District Alliance, with news and information in the University District section. The University District Alliance is a coalition of four neighborhoods surrounding the University of Minnesota's Minneapolis campus, the City of Minneapolis, and the University. The neighborhoods are: Marcy-Holmes, Southeast Como, Prospect Park/East River Road, and Cedar/Riverside. In addition business organizations operating within the area, two U student organizations and Augsburg College are part of the University District Alliance.

NDAA opponents search for next phase of protest
Approximately 70 people representing various activist groups in Minnesota rallied on Friday, February 3rd to protest the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA. The act, passed by congress and signed by President Obama, includes provisions that allow for the seizure and indefinite holding, without trial, of American citizens suspected of terrorist activities.MORE »

Fire and Ice coming to Prospect Park February 4
On Saturday, February 4, Prospect Park residents young and old will convene at Luxton Park’s community center to spice up the winter. Dragging their leftover Christmas trees down the road, both newcomers and lifelong inhabitants will bundle up in scarves and hats for the 15th annual Fire and Ice Festival.MORE »
Inside the maker movement
Just as open-source software has changed the course of technology development, the maker-movement is central to sharing ideas in the same way beyond just computers.
TC Maker is a "hacker-space" in Minneapolis which hosts a monthly night of sharing, learning, and making. At a recent visit we saw everything from a handmade trebuchet, to a programmed LED light system, to a computer controlled router for wood working.
The good hackers
To "hack" is to deconstruct, figure out, and reinvent. While most associate the term with computers, hacking has much broader applications for engineers and programmers in a wide array of industries.MORE »
