Known for its namesake park and annual Art Fair and May Day Festival, Powderhorn residents are famously creative and active in their community.

The revitalized Lake Street is home to many unique local businesses and the restored art deco Sears Building complex that is now the Midtown Exchange. Powderhorn Park is well served by transit and residents have convenient access to the Midtown Greenway and can easily walk to destinations along Lake Street and 38th Street.

"I received a bike last year and it was beautiful," Mariana (who preferred we just use her first name) recalled. "I didn't know how to ride before. But I was able to take my son to school. It also helped me lose seven pounds, and save time. Instead of walking somewhere in 45 minutes, I could ride my bike there in 15 minutes."

OUR STORIES | Fire and ice: Sierra Leone Samuels referees with a cool hand

“The boxing ring is my living room and I’m going to let you two play fight in the living room. But if you start breaking stuff and acting like fools, I will step in and shut it down...” - Sierra Leone Samuels, boxing referee

The boxing ring has a way of revealing character and teaching lessons. Those who enter unprepared or unfocused are often exposed. For amateur boxing referee, Sierra Leone Samuels, the boxing ring has provided a test of nerves, judgment, and reason—so far she’s passing with flying colors.
