Northeast Park Neighborhood News and Events

Northeast Park is roughly divided into three sections: the western section is mainly residential and is home to a number of restored Victorian era homes and rental properties. In the middle of the neighborhood, The Quarry, a large regional shopping center, is a buffer between the small residential portion of the neighborhood and the eastern section which is home to Hillside Cemetery and Honeywell International manufacturing. The neighborhood's park is a major attraction-with excellent playing fields, a new water park, and a golf putting course. Northeast Park has quick access to downtown Minneapolis via I-35 and is close to the artist galleries in the nearby Logan Park and Sheridan neighborhoods. Additional development is taking place along Central Avenue as well.

"Victory" at Public Functionary: DZINE's past comes kicking and screaming—and glittering—into the present

I love stories that place emphasis on heritage. Folk tales, mythology, old family stories, and anything that contributes to the long yarns connected to someone’s history; especially if there are visuals to go along with that. And if those visuals are sparkly, extremely detailed and thought-provoking, then all the better.

Public Functionary: A new Northeast Minneapolis art space

Courtesy Public Functionary

I get invited to events occasionally, and while I pride myself on being a house hermit I try to get out every now and then to catch something new. This time I will be attending another press preview on the 18th of April at the recently opened Public Functionary for their very first exhibition.

Northeast Minneapolis taproom tour: Dangerous Man Brewing, Indeed Brewing, and 612 Brew

Busy scene at 612 Brew on a Friday night

I came late to the Northeast Minneapolis taproom party—so late that I almost didn't get in. The first taproom in northeast, Indeed Brewing, opened back in August, but I didn't get around to touring the new tasting rooms until last Friday. It was one of those spur-of-the-moment things. The first stop on the planned itinerary was Dangerous Man at 1300 2nd Street N.E. The Dangerous Man website advises, "Pick up an Element Pizza, a sandwich from Maeve's, some Anchor Fish and Chips or just bring in your leftover Chinese. We love food, we just don't make it."
