The Phillips neighborhood includes East, West, and Midtown Phillips. Phillips is a diverse area in many ways: its population includes people of many nationalities; it has a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial uses; and it is home to several large employers such as Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Wells Fargo Mortgage, Allina Health Care Services, the Green Institute/Phillips Eco-Enterprise Center, along with small neighborhood businesses. The Midtown Exchange project—which redeveloped the vacant Sears building at Chicago Avenue and Lake Street into a mixed-used development of offices, hotel, retail, a global market, and housing—is one of the neighborhood's great assets. Phillips is well-connected to other parts of the city via the LRT Lake Street/Midtown station, high-frequency bus service, and The Midtown Greenway—a 5.5-mile long former railroad corridor with bicycling and walking trails, the stunning Martin Olav Sabo Bridge, and the Freewheel Midtown Bike Center. Housing in Phillips is as diverse as its residents—there are pre-war single-family homes in a variety of styles, new apartments and condominiums along the Greenway, and low-rise, multi-family apartment buildings. Join Heart of the Beast artists who will walk you through a giant story board of the parade and guide your creations. Workshops are held Saturdays and Tuesdays from now through May 3.
