Chastity Brown headlined a "Gravel Road Touring Showcase" at The Cedar on Friday night, April 5 that also featured Actual Wolf and Barbara Jean. All those names, including the touring company's, gives you a feel for the kind of music: a bit of twang, a bit of folk and some sweet soul.

State may go after money given to Minnesota, St. Paul orchestras

Despite receiving funding from the state’s taxpayers, neither the Minnesota Orchestra nor the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra has played a concert since last fall. Anyone upset by that fact may be cheered by language included in HF1183, which was heard by the House Legacy Committee Wednesday.

MUSIC REVIEW | Sigur Rós bring audience members to tears at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium

There were moments during the Sigur Rós concert at Roy Wilkins Auditorium where the bass and percussion permeated into my chest, where the vocals and strings opened the pores of my skin, where I felt completely transported by the multidimensional sound. I’m not exaggerating when I say those moments felt like a religious experience of sorts—and this is coming from an atheist. The Icelandic band has the ability to completely take you to another place.

The singer/vocal enchantress Madeleine Peyroux performed at The Dakota in Minneapolis on Tuesday, April 2 and will do so again on Wednesday, April 3 with two shows each evening. If you can afford the time and the tickets ($50-$65), invest, invest, invest. What you'll come out with is a glimpse into song history, artistic tribute and interpretation that is stellar to the core. British singer/songwriter/actress Rebecca Pidgeon (with Tim Young) is the opener with a short song set including her Grammy nominated "Slingshot".
