The Adventures of Johnny Northside: Being the amazing, true-to-life adventures and (very likely) misadventures of a divorced man who seeks to take his education, activism and seemingly boundless energy to the North Side of Minneapolis, to help with a process of turning an arguably-blighted neighborhood into something approaching Urban Utopia. I wouldn't be here if I didn't want to be near my child. This blog is dedicated to my 12-year-old son Alex, and his dream of studying math and robotics at MIT.

Cook 'N Wheels - mobile food truck in Nomi (oh! and they're legit!)

Mobile food trucks have become the new food movement in Minneapolis for two years now, and this is the first year that the food carts are licensed to serve at various locations in Nomi.  I had seen this food cart on the northwest corner of Penn and Lowry several times, and today was the perfect opportunity to check them out for a late lunch on the go.MORE »

The other night I was invited to The Lowry Cafe for their second week of live music on Wednesday nights. One of the wait staff, Jake, is quite the musician with some impressive credentials and puts on a good show. It's amazing what entertainment can be created by just a dude on a stool with a guitar and a beer.

Street vendor license for Sandy's, home of the Knockout Dog

Sandy's, a food stand which often sets up shop in front of Cub Foods in North Minneapolis, has reportedly been granted a street vendor license by the City of Minneapolis and -- at some time in the foreseeable but more temperate future -- will be setting up shop in the vicinity of the Gay Nineties Bar in the Warehouse District.
