Oscar winning actor John C. Reilly will be touching down in Minneapolis on June 15 to perform at the Woman’s Club Assembly Theater for an intimate evening of musical entertainment. With the help of some of his friends, the artist, who goes by John Reilly when he’s with his band, will deliver a night of vintage music ranging from bluegrass to country to folk and beyond.
“We like to play timeless music. Something that the audience can all sing along to because this is just great music that almost everyone knows,” Reilly said.
Reilly, who has starred in films like Chicago, Magnolia, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, was always drawn to music. He spoke of a time when he used to sit in on jam sessions with his artist friends before he made the decision to turn his passion into something greater. That desire has not only lead him to collaborate on a few singles with music greats like Jack White but it has now lead him on a multi-city tour with his group John Reilly & Friends, which is made up of Third Man Records bandmates Tom Brosseau and Becky Stark. The Minneapolis stop is one of many on his cross-country tour.
“We’re here [Saturday night] and then we immediately get back on the road to hit the next location. It’s been a real pleasure to bring this music to so many people these past few weeks,” Reilly said.
The choice to play at the Woman’s Club Theater comes from Reilly’s desire to keep the shows intimate for audiences. He likes the idea of being close enough to connect with individuals. The band seeks out environments that yield a feeling somewhat like playing in a really big living room with friends. This is definitely a show you don’t want to miss.
