Tommy's 2010 Fringe Top 10

Once again my 12 year old son Tommy is blogging his Top 10 list. Tommy "only" saw 15 shows this year because we had family commitments. This is his 10th year of fringing (although he doesn't remember much from the year 2000).

Hello! This is Tommy writing, and I'm about to give you my 2010 Fringe Top Ten! Here it is!MORE »

I love Fringe.

As we enter the final days of the 2010 Fringe Festival (still time to see lots of shows – get out there!!), I have to say that in spite of being sick the ENTIRE time, this was possibly the best Fringe yet. "The Scottsboro Boys" at the Guthrie: Dancing with demons

I decided I had to see the Guthrie Theater's production of The Scottsboro Boys for myself when our reviewer Sheila Regan turned in a verdict that was 180 degrees from the opinion of most other local critics. Quinton Skinner at City Pages called the show "a deeply satisfying piece of art, one that burrows into the textures of the fearful and returns with bleak humor, macabre textures, and an engaging, finely crafted sense of presentation." Sheila, on the other hand, wrote that the show "is so offensively bad it took all my powers not to walk out," going on to say that "it scares me to think that The Scottsboro Boys will somehow be a hit." What kind of show could be so divisive?MORE »
