Recently I needed to travel to the Bemidji area to finish some business related to my mother's death, and I decided that I should check out Villa Calma in Bemidji. It turned out to be an exceptionally good decision.
Now that spring has arrived--as far as I can tell--it's time to think about eating outdoors. Recently for work, I've been spending a lot of time in the town of Delano, west of the Twin Cities metro. I've driven by this place dozens of times, but never at the right time to stop, until this week.
Sometimes, in Minnesota in May, it's cold and dreary, and there's a desire for warm comfort food. Whether you want to make it yourself or have someone else prepare it, there's a fine place to visit: United Noodles.
I'd heard countless times how fabulous the breads from Sun Street Breads were, when they first started appearing at the Kingfield Farmers Market. Body Worlds is back at the Science Museum, after first appearing in 2006. For those unfamiliar with the concept, Body Worlds is an exhibit of real human bodies that have been preserved through plastination, a process that takes about 1500 work hours (over about a year) per body. Some say this is ghoulish; I think it's a beautiful look at the inner workings of the human body.

But first, a note: The Minnesota Historical Society has some very interesting and fun stuff going on around Minnesota in the Civil War, and I wrote about it here.
It's winter, it's cold, it's time to read, don't you think? I have a few books to share with you over the next couple of weeks. Let's start with some all-ages eye-candy.
